Why Tacoma Keeps Calling the Hagens

Three generations on the same streets. We don't just work Tacoma — we grew up moving it.

Downtown Loft & COI Experts

Plenty of Pierce County and the South Puget Sound apartment towers and downtown lofts won't open the dock until a Certificate of Insurance (COI) is approved and the service elevator is reserved. We handle that paperwork and the building manager directly, well before move day — which keeps your timeline and your deposit safe.

Top-Rated WA Crews

Our movers are full-time Hagen employees, background-checked and drilled on both delicate antiques and 300-pound safes — we don't staff jobs with day labor. That's how we hold a 5-star rating on Google and Yelp.

Transparent, Honest Pricing

No hidden fees, no curbside surprises. Clear flat-rate quotes on paper for local Tacoma moves, and binding written estimates for every long-distance relocation.

No Brokers, No Subcontractors

The truck in your driveway is ours and the crew draws a Hagen paycheck. Your job never gets listed for the lowest bidder or handed off to strangers in a rented van — one family company, start to finish.

Fully Insured, $1M Cargo

Permitted for Washington intrastate moves as WUTC  and interstate under our own US DOT 3361902 / MC 1086774 authority, with $1 million in cargo coverage on every single job.

On Time, Every Time

You get a two-hour arrival window and a phone call the moment our crew pulls out of the yard, and we build the day around your closing, your elevator hold, and your move-out cutoff — rain or shine.

Packing & Rain Wrap Included

Full or partial packing with the materials already aboard — pads, shrink wrap, dollies, and boxes ride on the truck, plus the extra wrapping that keeps your furniture dry through the Puget Sound drizzle.

Specialty & Hauling Handled

Pianos, gun safes, antiques, and the garage junk-outs the national vans turn down, all done with the right boards, straps, and a crew chief who has eased them up steep North End driveways before.

Free Estimate in 1 Hour

Tell us about your move and someone real at our Tacoma office puts together a flat-rate number for you, typically inside one business hour, with no obligation attached.

We Know Tacoma. We Move WA.

Thousands of careful moves and three generations of Hagens back every job.

Residential Moving in Tacoma

Residential Moving

Houses all over Pierce County, whether it's a Stadium District four-square with a basement or a Bonney Lake split-level on a long driveway. We pad the floors and door frames, disassemble the beds and bulky pieces and reassemble them at the other end, and shrink-wrap against the drizzle so nothing rides home wet.

Apartment & Condo Moving in Tacoma

Apartment & Condo Moving

Apartments, condos, and downtown lofts from the Stadium District to the Foss Waterway, including the buildings with skinny stairwells and a reserved elevator window you have to hit. Ryan locks in the freight elevator and the loading zone ahead of time so the crew finishes well within the booking, and we lay floor runners through the lobby and halls on the way through.

Full Packing in Tacoma

Full Packing

Turn the whole house over to Tyler's packers, or only the rooms you'd sooner not deal with, and the kitchen, glassware, and framed pieces come out double-wrapped and tagged by room. Anything we box is covered the same as the furniture riding the truck, and we show up with the boxes, paper, and tape so you're not making a run to the store.

Short-Term Storage in Tacoma

Short-Term Storage

Closing dates in Tacoma rarely line up clean, so when there's a gap we hold the house in a dry, climate-controlled unit and roll it back out the day you give the word. By unit size you're looking at roughly $120 to $280 a month, a figure we set down with the moving estimate instead of springing a second quote on you later.

Piano Moving in Tacoma

Piano Moving

Uprights, baby grands, gun safes, slate pool tables, and the heavy awkward pieces other crews wave off. We bring the right board, ramps, and straps, take the Proctor and North End stair runs slow, and get a grand down to the truck and wrapped without a scuff, upright pianos around $330 to $490 and baby grands $560 to $850.

Loading & Unloading in Tacoma

Loading & Unloading

Already rented a truck, or got a pod or U-Box parked out front? Put our crew on the clock to pack it tight or empty it quick, with the same careful hands on your furniture and boxes you'd get on a full move. These are also the folks for the hauling end of things, garage clear-outs, an old hot tub or dead fridge, a debris run to the transfer station, billed by the truckload at roughly $150 to $650 depending on how full it rides.

What Our Tacoma Customers Say

Our 5-star reputation comes from Tacoma families we've moved over three generations.

North End · Google
★★★★

“Hired them for our 2-bed up in the North End, and most of it went well. The staircase in those old houses is no joke, but the two movers took it slow and nothing on the furniture got chewed up, plus the number Dana quoted didn't move. Where they lost a star with me: they rolled in toward the tail end of the window rather than the start, so the first chunk of the morning was just us standing around waiting. After that, though, no real complaints.”

Proctor District · Google
★★★★★

“Moved our 3-bed near Proctor and these guys were the real deal. Marcus and his crew shrink-wrapped everything against the rain that morning, got the couch down the front steps without a scratch, and rebuilt the beds at the new place while I just pointed where things went. The number on the quote was the number I paid. Would absolutely hire Three Generations again.”

Stadium District · Google
★★★★★

“Studio in the Stadium District, knocked out fast and without any fuss. A pair of guys had me loaded and gone inside a couple of hours, and they were mindful with my record player and the bike heading down the stairs. The flat price was honest and nothing got tacked on at the finish line. Hard to do better than that.”

Old Town · Google
★★★★★

“Four bedrooms in Old Town, a garage stuffed to the rafters, and a full basement, I'd been dreading this move for weeks. Cole drove out and walked the whole place himself before putting a number on paper, and on the day his crew arrived right on schedule and just took over. Doorways got padded, the gun safe and my workbench came up the basement stairs without scuffing a single wall, and they didn't leave until every last thing was set where it belonged. What he wrote down is what I paid, not a penny more. Easily the best movers we've hired in this town.”

Meet the Owner

A Note From Cole

“Back in 1971 my grandfather Earl was hauling furniture and clearing out garages around South Tacoma; my dad Dale turned that into a full moving company, and the keys are mine now. Three generations on these hills taught me how often folks get a cheap quote over the phone, then a padded bill on move day. So here the price is a single honest flat rate in writing, the trucks and the crew are ours, and every piece gets wrapped against the rain the way Earl insisted. That is the shop I unlock at dawn.”

Tacoma Moving Questions, Answered

The things folks ask us most before booking a move.

Do you run the trucks yourselves, or hand the job to a broker?
Yes — Three Generations Moving & Hauling is a fully licensed and insured family moving company based in Tacoma, WA, run by the Hagens since 1971. We roll our own trucks and uniformed crews on every job, with WUTC and our own US DOT/MC authority on file — never a broker, matching service, or lead app.
How much does a local move cost?
Local moves are billed hourly from $140/hour for a 2-mover crew, with the truck, pads, and equipment included — most 1–2 bedroom moves take 2–4 hours. Three movers run $185/hour and four run $240/hour. After a quick walkthrough or video survey you can lock in a flat written rate instead, whichever you prefer. Long-distance moves are always a binding written quote.
How early should I book?
Two to three weeks ahead is ideal for weekend and end-of-month moves, and for the summer PCS rush around JBLM. Weekday and mid-month dates are easier to grab, and when a crew is open we're glad to take last-minute and same-day moves.
What areas do you serve?
Local moves around Tacoma and Pierce County and the South Puget Sound, intrastate anywhere in Washington, and long-distance from Tacoma to anywhere in the country. Specialty items like pianos, gun safes, and antiques — plus junk-out hauling — are handled in-house by our own crew.
